How Often Should I Turn on My Sprinklers?
You should water your lawn twice or three times a week. Installation of an automatic sprinkler system can allow you to choose ahead of time when to water your lawn and at what time. Your ideal watering schedule can depend on a variety of things, including your turf, elevation, and system capabilities. Usually, most lawns should be watered approximately three times a week for 20 minutes each time.
Watering your grass on a daily basis can harm your roots and cause a large spike in your water bill.
How Much Water Should my Lawn get?
Ideally, your lawn should be getting three-quarters of an inch, to one inch of water per week. If there are watering restrictions put into place because of a drought, this will change the amount your lawn can get per week. Your grass will turn darker in color as it goes under stress caused by drought.
